Heavy D: What He DId For Me

I had to be about eleven years old when I first met Heavy D. It was at Swayze Elementary Talent Show in Monroe Lousiana. I'd recorded a beat from my casio keyboard onto a cassette tape, hardly like the digital stuff they have today. I was the one who had made the beat and wrote the lyrics. This was my first crack at writing and producing so I was really nervous.

I ended up winning the award for first place and Heavy D was the person that presented me with my award. He asked who made the beat and wrote my infectious song about girls. "I did," I said looking up at him, amazed that a person I'd seen on television and even sang lyrics from was there in front of me. "Wow, that was great. I liked it alot." Heavy D said. "You stay in school and keep writing songs and you never know how far it could take you." He even gave me one of his hit records "Love Me For Me."

Heavy D has inspired me to keep doing music and even writing. Now I write fiction novels and music. I feel that Heavy D, "The Overweight Lover in the House" will always have a place in my heart as an artist.
